Old sewer system in Dlhe n. Cirochou

14.06.2012 - 31.07.2016

Only around 60% of households in Slovakia are connected to the sewer network. Switzerland is supporting the municipality of Dlhé nad Cirochou with the construction of a 4.8 kilometre sewer network. This will give more than 1,800 inhabitants access to the wastewater system. In addition, the capacity of the existing wastewater treatment system will be almost doubled.

Asbestos disposal in the Voivodship Lublin

Renewal of roofs containing asbestos

15.12.2009 - 31.12.2016

In the past, asbestos was greatly appreciated as a building material until it was realised that asbestos dust posed a serious health risk. Switzerland is helping Poland to introduce a system for the monitoring and disposal of asbestos in the Voivodship Lublin. It will also remove rubbish containing asbestos from illegal dumps and will renew the roofs of 16'000 houses.

01.10.2009 - 31.08.2015

Up to now, "green energy" in Slovenia has been almost exclusively derived from hydroelectric power plants, but that is set to change. Switzerland has been supporting a project in Slovenia that promotes other sources of renewable energy: a noise barrier along a motorway has been equipped with solar panels and 29 public buildings that were previously heated with oil have been converted to biomass heating, 12 of which have also been made energy efficient.

Planned project

Water Supply and Wastewater Fužine

01.01.2017 - 31.12.2020

Fužine is located in the thinly populated region of Gorski Kotar, where Switzerland and Croatia intend to implement several projects to improve the water supply and wastewater treatment. The existing water supply infrastructure of the region mainly consists of small independent systems that are fed from small springs and wells and are in need of rehabilitation. The current state causes high maintenance costs, water losses and sporadic supply bottlenecks. Only few of the dispersed settlements of Gorski Kotar are connected to the public sewage system. The uncontrolled discharge of untreated sanitary wastewater risks to pollute drinking water sources and sensitive waters.
