Projekt abgeschlossen

The project aims to improve access to education and health of over 25’000 people belonging to rural communities situated in three counties in the south west of Romania: Dolj, Olt and Gorj. The communities include vulnerable populations, mainly of Roma origin. The project is part of the thematic fund for inclusion of Roma and other vulnerable groups in Romania. Aktivitäten

Regarding the education component, the project will be working with parents, pupils and teachers. It will provide parental support activities, afterschool classes and intercultural kindergartens for children and training for teachers. In the health component, the project will establish three community centres providing first-aid and primary medical consultations. Further, information, education and awareness activities for vulnerable populations will be organized. General practitioners will be supported to improve their standards of care for Roma patients. For the community empowerment component, initiatives for intercultural dialogue, for solving common problems and capacity enhancement for community members will be implemented.

Education

  • 136 teachers trained on intercultural education
  • 4 kindergarten groups set up and fully furbished and the staff trained
  • 1 intercultural / bilingual preschool curriculum was elaborated
  • 407 children attended at least 90% of the afterschool activities
  • afterschool programmes were extended to gymnasium classes (V-VIII) in 4 schools
  • 16 participants in meetings of teachers/educators/managers and/or administrative staff from different communities
  • 74 animators trained in psychosocial activities (MGS methodology accredited by ANC)
  • approx. 1000 children took part in psychosocial activities, including mentorship activities aiming to build up their ethnic and individual self-esteem and to increase awareness
  • 288 parents continued the parental activities
  • 50 parents engage in working directly with their children on learning activities
  • 1 guide for parental support activities was realized

Health

  • 3 centres established and equipped and 3 local authorities took over the utility and maintenance cost of the Community centres developed in 2014
  • 10 training sessions organised for health staff
  • 3 family doctors awarded for their work in the communities
  • 12855 children, 546 pregnant and lactating mothers, 1011 other people from disadvantaged groups participated in health promotion services
  • 2915 children, 417 women, 818 other people from disadvantaged groups were applying health and hygiene activities

Community development:

  • 12 community dialogues established (partnership agreements signed)
  • 28 local initiatives were implemented
  • 289 local residents have participated in training courses
  • 24 community members were trained on soft skills
  • 19 action plans for community initiatives were elaborated in 2016
  • 6 initiatives supported with matching funds by local authorities
  • 7 partnerships with local or county authorities, local or county organisations
  • 39 women and 45 youth participated in Mentoring activities and 112 youngsters in Aflateen groups

Economic empowerment:

  • 21 communities were informed on the economic empowerment component
  • 200 participants were present in the information sessions
  • 140 entrepreneurs expressed their interest to be trained within the programme
  • 43 entrepreneurs were trained

  • Teachers are trained and coached in 12 schools
  • Intercultural preschool teaching is available for 150 children
  • 180 children take part in afterschool activities
  • Psychosocial activities offered for at least 1000 children
  • 600 parents participated in parental support activities
  • Housing and infrastructure improvements in 270 households implemented

Health:

  • 3 community resource centres are established
  • Health promotion activities organized in 12 communities
  • Housing and infrastructure improvements in 270 households implemented
  • 12 community dialogues between Roma communities and local authorities established

Empowerment:

  • 12 community initiatives to solve common problems are set-up
  • Training on leadership for 96 community members took place
  • 3 social entrepreneurial initiatives implemented
  • Results are documented, capitalized and made public
