In line with the EU directive on renewable energy, Poland has set itself the goal of increasing renewable energy use to 15% of overall energy consumption.

The project's overall objective is to improve air quality in the project region, which is a protected nature area. The project will reduce emissions caused by coal based heating systems by introducing renewable energy sources in the Wisloka River Basin region. Furthermore, solar power will be used to produce electricity for public buildings.

The direct beneficiary of this project is the Union of the Wisloka River Basin Communes as the institution responsible for the implementation of the project, as well as the 4’266 households participating in the project. Indirect beneficiaries are the 243'000 inhabitants of the region due to reduced emission and better air quality which is a result of the shift from coal to renewable energy sources.

• Purchase and installation of solar systems for heating water on 105 public buildings.
• Purchase and installation of solar systems for heating water on 5'950 private households.
• Purchase and installation of 49 photovoltaic systems on public buildings for generating energy.
• Campaign to promote the use of renewable energy (conferences, tv spots and promotional movies, trainings sessions, study visits).
• Installation of equipment for impact monitoring.

Erreichte Resultate:  

• 8,250 solar systems on private houses, 103 solar systems on public utility buildings and 49 photovoltaic systems installed.
• 21,600 Mwh/a solar energy produced per year in participating buildings.
• Annual CO2 emissions dropped by 10,300 tons
