Swiss communities, education and business: Federal Councillor Ignazio Cassis to travel to Uruguay, Chile and Brazil

Federal Councillor Ignazio Cassis will make his first visit to South America from 22 to 26 April 2019. In Uruguay, Chile and Brazil, he will meet with members of Swiss communities whose origins date back to the immigration of large numbers of Swiss nationals in the 19th century. In the three countries, Mr Cassis will also hold political talks on topics ranging from trade, education and culture to Latin America's key role in tackling the regional and global challenges of the future.

House of Switzerland touring China from 2021

At its meeting on 17 April 2019, the Federal Council decided to capitalise on the 2022 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games in Beijing as a platform to promote Switzerland in China. As part of a one-year campaign beginning in 2021, the House of Switzerland will travel to various cities across China, showcasing the diversity of Switzerland with partners from business, tourism, science and culture.

Ignazio Cassis opens the 5th edition of the Switzerland-Italy Dialogue Forum

Today in Genoa, Federal Councillor Ignazio Cassis opened the fifth edition of the Switzerland-Italy Dialogue Forum, in the presence of more than 150 Swiss and Italian personalities. On the margins of the forum, the head of the FDFA met the Italian minister for regional affairs and autonomies, Erika Stefani.

Switzerland concludes Chairmanship of OSCE Forum for Security Co-operation

On 10 April 2019, Switzerland concluded its Chairmanship of the OSCE's Forum for Security Co-operation (FSC). Against the backdrop of political tensions in the OSCE region, the Chairmanship held weekly security dialogues on matters of politico-military security and stability in Europe since the beginning of the year. During its tenure, Switzerland contributed as a mediator to strengthening the multilateral dialogue on security policy and politico-military cooperation.

Switzerland to attend IMF and World Bank 2019 Spring Meetings in Washington

President Ueli Maurer, Federal Councillor Guy Parmelin and Thomas Jordan, Chairman of the Governing Board of the Swiss National Bank, will be in Washington from 12 to 13 April 2019. They will attend the joint Spring Meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank Group (WBG).

African Union and consultations: State Secretary Pascale Baeriswyl in political talks in Ethiopia

FDFA State Secretary Pascale Baeriswyl met members of the African Union on Monday in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa at the organisation's headquarters. At the heart of discussions were peace and security policy and the issue of migration. On Tuesday she held bilateral consultations with her Ethiopian counterpart, State Minister of Foreign Affairs Markos Tekle. Ms Baeriswyl had come from Rwanda, where she took part in the remembrance ceremony marking the 25th anniversary of the genocide, with a delegation led by Marina Carobbio Guscetti, President of the National Council.

Positive review of Switzerland's international cooperation by the OECD

The Development Assistance Committee presented the results of its review of Switzerland's international cooperation in Bern on 5 April 2019. Its findings are for the most part positive: Switzerland is a strong and reliable development partner. The Committee has made new recommendations to Switzerland to enable it to meet the challenges ahead. Among other measures, it calls on Switzerland to focus on its commitments and to work towards spending 0.5% of its gross national income (GNI) on official development assistance (ODA).
