South Asia Division

The South Asia Division covers four priority regions: Bangladesh, Nepal, Afghanistan and Pakistan, including the Hindu Kush regions of Afghanistan and Pakistan. The main aim of its programmes is to maintain a presence in conflict-affected regions despite difficult circumstances and to contribute to national reform agendas and positive transition processes. To tackle the main social and political factors contributing to conflict, it encourages respect for human rights and promotes peace by helping to strengthen civil society and local governance, and supporting inclusive economic and social development in rural areas. The division is the SDC's centre of expertise for conflict and human rights and ensures the exchange of knowledge both within the SDC and with external specialists.
