The Middle East and North Africa (Development) Division manages Switzerland's development programmes in the occupied Palestinian territory, Lebanon, Jordan, Egypt and Tunisia. The focus of its programmes in the region is to maintain a presence in conflict zones, even under difficult conditions, and to contribute to national reform agendas and a positive transition process. By promoting respect for human rights and peace, strengthening civil society and local governance and fostering inclusive rural, social and economic development, it seeks to address the main political and social factors that lead to conflict.
The MENA-D Division works on behalf of the entire SDC on policy development, quality assurance and knowledge management in relation to human rights, conflicts and conflict prevention, and development cooperation in fragile contexts. Its teams of experts work closely with other units in the FDFA and the rest of the federal government.
