The Eurodac database contains the fingerprints of persons applying for asylum in a Dublin member state or caught entering the country illegally. Until now Swiss prosecution authorities did not have access to this data.

In order to improve Switzerland's internal security, the Federal Council now intends to give prosecution authorities access to the Eurodac database under certain conditions. To this end, it is trying to finalise a protocol with the European Union (EU).
