With youth unemployment being one of the key challenges of the 21st century, the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals Agenda places great importance on ensuring equal access to affordable and high-quality technical and vocational education for all. As the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region has the highest youth unemployment rates worldwide, countries are actively striving to improve their Vocational Education and Training (VET) systems and a number are increasingly seeking support from Switzerland whose Swiss model of dual VET is widely regarded as successful.
WorldSkills presents a “unique opportunity for all the countries and regions that participate to benchmark their vocational education and training systems” and the Embassy of Switzerland in the United Arab Emirates is organizing a Podium-discussion dedicated to presenting the particular qualities of Swiss VET and to exploring to what extent Swiss VET offers solutions to tackle the MENA region’s youth unemployment challenge and how its characteristics may lend themselves to being adapted to fit into the local contexts of countries in the region that may wish to implement a similar model tailored to their requirements.
The Podium-discussion promises a lively, interactive debate among a number of experts and apprenticeship graduates from different backgrounds in this field who will draw on their respective experience and expertise and share their perspectives on these and other questions.
