Das Projekt zielt auf eine nachhaltig verbesserte Wasserversorgung der im südsudanesischen Gliedstaat Northern Bahr el Ghazal lebenden 720‘000 Menschen sowie derer Viehbestände. Dieses Grenzgebiet zum Nordsudan gehört zu den ärmsten weltweit und ist seit der Unterzeichnung des Friedensvertrags zwischen Nord- und Südsudan im Jahr 2005 eines der Hauptrückkehrgebiete von südsudanesischen Vertriebenen.

In Minkamann im Zentrum des Südsudans sorgen fünf Kliniken für die medizinische Grundversorgung der Menschen, die wegen der seit Dezember 2013 wütenden Kämpfe vertrieben wurden. Die Tätigkeit von Ärzte ohne Grenzen Schweiz, die von der DEZA unterstützt wird, stellt eine ständige Herausforderung dar. Eine Million Menschen im Südsudan mussten fliehen.

Nachhaltiger Umgang mit Holzressourcen im Südsudan

Holz ist im Südsudan ein wichtiger Energieträger und ein weitverbreitetes Baumaterial. Durch den grossen Zustrom von Flüchtlingen aus dem Sudan erhöhte sich in einigen Regionen der Druck auf bereits vorher knappe natürliche Ressourcen, darunter Holz, weiter. Die DEZA finanziert deshalb ein Waldkartierungsprojekt, um im Südsudan einen nachhaltigen Umgang mit Holz zu ermöglichen.

South Sudan, Caritas Switzerland: Restoration of resilience in livelihoods for rural and semi-urban communities in Torit State

This project is designed to increase the resilience of women, men and children in Torit State in South Sudan. This will be achieved through improving agricultural production and access to value chains for farmers and small scale businesses. In order to improve productivity and reduce water-related diseases, the project will improve access to water. This will ultimately reduce vulnerability to the threat of food & nutrition insecurity, and bring the target population to engage in increased productivity with financial benefit.

South Sudan finds itself in lasting state of fragility and chronic conflict that has impacted the social fabric of its population. The project will address deeply rooted social aspects of conflict by training and supporting young peacemakers to engage in conflict resolution and community dialogues. Combined with the promotion of youth-led businesses, the project intends to reduce the risk of the youth entering cycles of despairs and violence. Thereby, it contribute to sustainable development and a longer-term stability in South Sudan.
OVCI - Improving nutritional condition of most vulnerable groups in Juba

Malnutrition among children and other vulnerable groups remains worse as a result of the prevailing food insecurity situation in South Sudan. According to the 2019 Humanitarian Response Plan (HRP) for South Sudan, some 1.8 million people – the majority of which are children under five years - face malnutrition. Through this project, Volunteers Organization for International Co-operation (OVCI) intends to address malnutrition of vulnerable children, pregnant and lactating mothers and other destitute persons in Juba County by improving their dietary intake.

OCHA advocates for effective and principled humanitarian action by all, for all, in partnership with national and international actors in order to alleviate human suffering in sudden-onset disasters and protracted crises. It is responsible for bringing together humanitarian actors to ensure a coherent and timely response to emergencies. This project aims at enhancing security coordination and local contextual understanding to increase humanitarian access to insecure locations both inside and outside of Protection of Civilian (PoC) sites. Through enhanced understanding of the context, operational threats can be better mitigated by NGOs, facilitating scale-up of programme and service delivery to the affected population in South Sudan’s Upper Nile and Unity States.
