Scaling up Fair Trade Travel
Fair Trade in Tourism South Africa (FTTSA) has established since 2001 the world's first and still only tourism Fair Trade certification program which has the potential to become the basis for a future worldwide Fair Trade Label for travel and tourism. With defined standards of supporting disadvantaged producers and staff along the whole supply chain and of paying a fair price and fairtrade premium for social development in the destination, Fair Trade Travel introduces a promising framework for fair and sustainable development in tourism.

|Contesto||Tourism is an important sector for economic and social development as well as biodiversity conservation in most developing countries, and the need for tourism growth to be managed sustainably is widely recognized. However, sustainable tourism certification initiatives currently in operation around the world lack the public recognition needed for real market impact, which in turn limits the benefits accruing to businesses, destinations, communities and other stakeholders.|
|Obiettivi||Increased income from tourism for South Africa/southern Africa|
|Effetti a medio termine||FTTSA ensures the strengthening of the FTT system, advocates for its outreach and engages in market development activities.
