World Bank Multi-Partner Fund (MPF)

In 2013, the international community and the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) agreed on a new framework of engagement (New Deal Compact for Somalia) to support peace and state building efforts in the war-torn country. With its contribution to the World Bank Multi-Partner Fund (MPF), which is one of the funding windows of the Compact, Switzerland will support the rebuilding of core state functions and the socio-economic recovery in Somalia.

Second Allocation of SDC Funding to ICRC Operations in 2014 CAR, DRC, Somalia

In line with the Good Humanitarian Donorship (GHD) principles, Switzerland recognizes the necessity of predictable and flexible funding to respond to changing needs in humanitarian crises. SDC funding to ICRC operations allows the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to respond proactively and to provide immediate protection and assistance for people affected by armed conflict and other situations of violence.

SDC funding to UNICEF emergency programmes in 5 underfunded emergency situations allows UNICEF to better plan its assistance programmes and proactively respond to situations as needed. Moreover contributions will not be thematically earmarked.

Contributions to OCHA Field Operations in 2014

OCHA is responsible for bringing together humanitarian actors to ensure coherent response to emergencies and facilitates the work of operational humanitarian agencies in the field. SDC aims to support OCHA in delivering its core functions in humanitarian coordination, advocacy and policy development. Therefore, SDC seeks to provide support to OCHA field offices in relevant humanitarian contexts, in line with SDC geographic and thematic priorities.

La DSC sostiene un progetto di decentralizzazione in Somalia. Lo scopo è quello di promuovere la pace e lo sviluppo rafforzando la capacità dei municipi di rispondere ai bisogni degli abitanti. I primi risultati sono incoraggianti.

La DSC partecipa al Programma triennale di resilienza dell'Organizzazione delle Nazioni Unite per l’alimentazione e l’agricoltura, che si iscrive nel programma globale della FAO per la Somalia, con un contributo di 6 milioni di franchi allo scopo di migliorare le condizioni di vita delle popolazioni più vulnerabili in Somalia. Con strumenti innovativi di monitoraggio, misure di attenuazione del rischio e stretti partenariati, il programma spiana la strada alla transizione dagli interventi umanitari allo sviluppo sostenibile in vaste aree della Somalia, tra cui la regione centro-meridionale in cui l'accesso degli aiuti umanitari alla popolazione bisognosa è molto limitato.

DRC Contribution – Mixed Migration; Horn of Africa and Yemen

The aim of this intervention is to prevent violations against and increase protection for people in mixed migration flows in the HoA and Yemen region. It is a contribution to the Danish Refugee Council (DRC) with focus on two specific partial actions: I) supports activities on protection needs and awareness raising in Puntland, II) strengthens information and knowledge sharing on a regional level in the HoA.

Horn of Africa NGO Safety Programme

In Somalia and Kenya, implementing projects requires constant security analyses and information to access the beneficiaries and ensure the security of the implementing staff. By supporting NGO safety programmes in both countries SOC contributes to adequate analysis, advise and training allowing the operational NGOs to mitigate risks and improve access to beneficiaries, while benefiting itself from this information to strengthen its context knowledge and secure its own missions/operations.
