Berne, 18.12.2019 - Swissmedic, the Swiss Agency for Therapeutic Products, in cooperation with the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) and its partner authority in the Republic of Korea intend to work more closely in the therapeutic products sector. On 18 December 2019 in Bern, Raimund Bruhin, Director of Swissmedic, the Swiss Agency for Therapeutic Products and Eui Kyung Lee, Minister of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) signed an agreement on the mutual recognition of inspection results relating to Good Manufacturing Practice for medicinal products.

FDFA State Secretary Pascale Baeriswyl met her South Korean counterpart Mr Cho Hyun, First Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, for political talks today in Seoul. Discussions focused on bilateral cooperation and the strengthening of the multilateral system. Ms Baeriswyl also took part in the inauguration of the new Swiss embassy building in Seoul and along with her South Korean counterpart signed the protocol revising the double taxation agreement between the two countries.

On this year's World Day against the Death Penalty the FDFA has presented its new action plan, which sets out Switzerland's foreign policy activities towards universal abolition of the death penalty for the period until 2019.

In 2016 the Swiss Confederation celebrates its 725th National Day which will be honoured by Swiss nationals living in Asia as well. At the initiative of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs and the Chief of the Armed Forces, Lieutenant General André Blattman, an ensemble consisting of 14 musicians from the Swiss Military Band will provide the musical background for the festivities at embassies in Seoul (South Korea), Beijing (China), Manila (Philippines) and Singapore.

Cooperation in counterterrorism, disaster preparedness and cyberspace can strengthen mutual trust in Asia, Federal Councillor Didier Burkhalter said at the opening of the Asian Conference of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) in Seoul. The Head of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA) said that on the basis of its experience and the instruments at its disposal, the OSCE can be a bridge for dialogue on security with Asia. Switzerland currently holds the Chairmanship of the OSCE Asian Contact Group.
