COVID-19

There is an ongoing outbreak of COVID-19 around the world, with confirmed cases in India also. Please note that in order to prevent the spread of the virus, the Indian authorities have issued far-reaching travel restrictions for travelers. If you have any travel plans, please refer to the travel advisories of the Indian Immigration Office

The Indian government has decided that from March 22nd, 2020 (05H30 IST) no international commercial passenger flights will be allowed to land in India for one week. This means, as well, that there will probably be no flights leaving India during this period. Domestic flights will cease operation from midnight 23.59 on March 24th, 2020 until March 31st, 2020. Most buses and trains are also not functioning at the moment.

We strongly recommend to all Swiss nationals in India to follow the information and recommendations of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the World Health Organization (WHO), and the Federal Office of Public Health in Switzerland. Recommendations for Swiss tourists

Given the uncertainties caused by COVID-19 the Swiss government on 16 March 2020 has recommended that all Swiss nationals or persons residing in Switzerland travelling abroad do return swiftly to Switzerland. They are requested to organize their departure and return travel, if necessary with the help of a travel agency or transport company.

Please be aware that organizing the return travel is each tourist’s personal responsibility. In doing so, detours and additional costs may occur and must be accepted. There is no legal entitlement to an organized departure (evacuation), even in a crisis situation.

If you are currently travelling in India, please make sure you are registered on https://www.itineris.eda.admin.ch (travel admin) so that you can be contacted by the relevant Swiss embassy or consulate if necessary.  Make sure to give and update your precise location at all times.
