Young people who want to live abroad can stay with a family as an au-pair. They are provided with accommodation and meals, plus a small amount of pocket money, in return for helping in the household and looking after the children. Attending a language school is an integral part of an au-pair arrangement. Au-pairing is intended for people between the ages of 18 and 26 (in some cases, up to 30). Specialised agencies mediate host families and take care of the associated formalities.
