Coronavirus COVID-19 Travel ban

The Bulgarian Ministry of Health has issued following order:

To temporarily ban entering Bulgaria starting at 0.00 h. On 18.3.2020 for citizens of China, Iran, Bangladesh, India, Maldives, Nepal, Sri Lanka, kingdom of Spain, Italy, Republic of Korea, Great Britain and Northern Ireland, France, Germany, the Netherlands and Switzerland except citizens with permanent, long term and long residence in Bulgaria, as well members of their families

  1. The order has to be announced to the minister of foreign affairs, minister of interior, minister of transport, the director of border police and the regional health inspections.

  2. This order will remain valid until the withdrawal of it.

Novel Coronavirus

For information related to the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) kindly consult the information and directives of the local authorities www.mh.government.bg and www.mfa.bg and the recommendations of the World Health Organization WHO

On state level, the Federal Office of Public Health of Switzerland FHPO informs in regards to the Novel Coronavirus and publishes travel advice accordingly.

The Travel Advice FDFA (in German, French and Italian) offers travelers basic information for travel preparation by informing on possible risks and certain precautions. They are to be considered as a complementary source of information.

Entry to Switzerland

As of 25 march 2020 the Swiss Federal Council  has extended the restrictions on entry in Switzerland to all countries except the Pincipality of Liechtenstein.

Information on flights to Switzerland

We would like to inform you that WIZZAIR and Bulgaria air are currently operating flights to Switzerland. The next flight FB491 to Zurich is scheduled for 02.04.2020 at 07.20, and flight W64323 to Basel is scheduled for 31.03.2020 at 07.25.

Please always check with the airline before the flight.

Important notice

For the Swiss citizens currently travelling in Romania and Bulgaria for tourism or business purposes, it is still possible to return to Switzerland by air, although more and more airlines are reducing their flights daily and we do not know until when the airlines connections will still be available.

If you wish to return to Switzerland, you should make your own arrangements as soon as possible by contacting the airlines directly.

Travel to Switzerland by car is no longer possible due to the closure of several borders. A long detour might still be possible however is it is not suggested.

Every Swiss citizen is responsible to make their own arrangements as per the Federal Act on Swiss Persons and Institutions Abroad (195.1).
