The direct beneficiary is the Lubelskie Voivodship as the institution receiving direct financial support for the implementation of this project. Indirect beneficiaries are the communes, owners, administrators and inhabitants in the area covered by the project as they benefit from improved asbestos management, reduced exposure to asbestos containing materials, and a healthier environment. As most of the asbestos containing materials are located in rural areas, the respective residents will be particularly benefitting from this project.

The Lubelskie Voivodship occupies the second place in terms of the quantity of asbestos containing products in Poland. Assuming the current tempo of removal and neutralization, up to 2032 only 150'000 tons (out of an estimated 2m tons) would be properly disposed of. Therefore, the Voivodship has identified the need to take measures to protect their residents from possible harmful impacts of asbestos containing materials.

The goal of the project is to reduce health risk exposure of people today living in houses with asbestos containing roofs, to improve health and living conditions for the whole population in the covered region and to improve environmental conditions in the covered region.

• Establishment of an asbestos management system
• Elimination of asbestos containing roofing materials
• Elimination of asbestos containing materials from illegal dumpsites
• Education and information campaign

• Availability of an effective and efficient asbestos management system including monitoring and controlling of asbestos neutralization
• Minimized danger of exogenous toxic substances affecting people in the covered region
• Minimized danger of exogenous toxic substances contaminating the environment, particularly groundwater
• About 6'600 households live in asbestos-free apartments and houses
• Higher awareness of the local and regional populations regarding the safe handling of asbestos containing materials
