Police Forces, Mountain Rescue Service of SR, Rescue Module of Ministry of Interior of SR, Association of Rescue Dog Handlers of SR and other rescue services of European states, Employees of Control Chemical Laboratories and Fire and Rescue Forces

Since 1998, Slovakia has seen a big increase in the occurrence of various types of natural disasters and of other types of emergencies. This is reflected in a 25% rise of overall rescue activities between 1998 and 2008. The Integrated Rescue System (IRS) of the Slovak Republic needs to provide the assistance as fast and effective as possible. The speed and effectiveness of the assistance is to a great extent influenced by the professional knowledge and technical equipment of the rescue forces, as well as the effectiveness of deployment. The analysis of the intervention actions of the rescue forces shows that incidents like floods, forest fires, wind or snow calamities, mass traffic accidents in tunnels and the leakage of dangerous substances are the accidents where the rescue forces suffer the biggest lack of professional preparedness and the lack of necessary technical equipment necessary for the management of such situations

The overall goal of the project is to protect civilians and their property in the Slovak Republic. The objective of the project is to ensure a high preparedness of the Slovak Rescue forces of the Integrated Rescue System to manage natural disasters and other emergencies.

Component 1: A centre for service dogs will be built and es-tablished. Trainings for dog trainers will be realised in coop-eration with the “Kompetenzzentrum Veterinärdienst und Armeetiere” (DDPS).
Component 2: The equipment of the Control Chemical Laboratories of Civil Protection will be modernised. Additionally, trainings of the employees of the Control Chemical Laboratories will be implemented together with the Spiez Laboratory.
Component 3: Trainings of the fire and rescue forces to manage emergency situations in road and railway tunnels will be held. A command vehicle for the fire and rescue forces will be procured and tactical exercises held.

The expected results are:

Component 1:

• The training centre CANISPOL is established
• 18 trained dog trainers

Component 2

• Equipment of Chemical Laboratories in Nitra, Slovenska Lupca and Jasov is modernized
• Competences of 10 employees are enhanced in the area of measurement of dangerous chemical and radioactive substances¨

Component 3

• 24 firemen have practical knowledge to respond to emergency situations in tunnels
• One Chief command vehicle in place
