Community Service Workshops (Probation)

The project will - on the experience already gained since 2007 - establish a community service workshop in Bucharest in partnership between VEBO Switzerland, the Foundation FPSC and the Ministry of Justice in Romania as well as set the basis for the creation of two more workshops in other cities. The project is part of the thematic fund security in Romania. Further information about this fund can be found among the additional information on the very bottom of this page.

Contexte
The project’s priority sector is the Romanian judiciary in general with a focus on the execution of community service hours as an obligation imposed by the court within the Romanian Probation system. According to various studies, community service (CS) seems to be an appealing option for the judges everywhere in the world.
Objectifs
For the entire project duration until the end of 2014, the project's objective is to create new possibilities for executing CS by
- developing special facilities, i.e. workshops, where CS can be properly executed and supervised, in a safe environment – also for minors - and in an efficient manner;
- stimulating the judges and the probation services to encourage CS, which has proved to have high benefits.
Activités
The project activities are divided in nine components which are planned to be implemented in defined periods between July 2011 and end of 2014. This credit proposal only covers a first phase of a maximum of six months during which the first three components will be executed.
Résultats
The expected results are:

  • A market research in all important cities of the country to identify potential partners
  • Setting up the 2nd workshop of the project in Bucharest
  • Evaluation with lessons learned in the past
  • Decision on the locations for the next two workshops
