Interim report for the end of the EU 10 commitment period (2007-2012)

On the 14th of July 2012, after five years, the commitment period of Switzerland’s EU enlargement contribution comes to an end. During this period, Switzerland appraised and approved together with the new EU-countries from Central and Eastern Europe 210 projects, which are now being implemented with the financial support of Switzerland until the end of 2017.

2013 annual report on Switzerland’s enlargement contribution
The 2013 annual report on Switzerland’s enlargement contribution has been published. It illustrates the concrete results of the contribution through projects, and shows why the enlargement contribution is also in Switzerland’s interests. At the end of 2013, more than 200 projects were in the process of implementation; 13 had already been completed. An important event in 2013 was the annual conference on Swiss Cooperation with Eastern Europe on the theme of the importance, impact and potential of the enlargement contribution, at which project staff reported on their experiences.

66 new Research fellowships for foreign students in Switzerland
The "Scientific Exchange Programme between the New Member States and Switzerland", or Sciex-NMS.ch for short, enables doctoral and post-doctoral students from the new EU member states to study in Switzerland for a limited period. As a result of the ninth call, 66 projects from excellent young researchers were selected with a total funding of 5.4 million Swiss francs.

CHF 190 million for a sustainable energy policy
Switzerland is supporting a sustainable energy policy in six partner countries with around CHF 190 million from its enlargement contribution. In Estonia, for example, the contribution is being used to make the design of three preschools and a home for the elderly more energy efficient. Four Estonian communities showcased their building projects on 14 March 2014. In February 2014, Switzerland approved a project to institutionalise the energy city label in Romania.
