Tram Project Olomouc - Nove Sady B
The district of Nové Sady is one of Olomouc’s largest urban districts. In terms of public transport, the district is only served by buses and easily accessible by car. The heavy car and bus traffic results in frequent congestion and causes a deterioration of the air quality, not only in this area but also across the entire City of Olomouc. The project therefore aims to enhance the public transport infrastructure of Olomouc and thus improve the air quality (mitigation of greenhouse gas- and other hazardous emissions) by constructing a tram network extension from Olomouc’s city centre towards the densely populated Nové Sady district. Environment and Infrastructure
Basic Infrastructure: Public Transport Target Group
The direct beneficiary is the city of Olomouc which will be supported to improve their public transport infrastructure. The indirect beneficiaries are the the inhabitants
of Olomouc and in particular the expected 5’600 passengers of the Nové Sady district travelling daily with public transport who will benefit from more reliable and comfortable public transport.
Additionally, city residents will encounter lower levels of atmospheric pollution.
Context
The overall project is to renew and enhance the public transport infrastructure of Olomouc and thus improve air quality and living standards in the parts of the town
linked to the project. The district of Nové Sady has a population of 15’000 inhabitants and is one of Olomouc’s largest urban districts. In terms of public transport, the district is only served by
buses. During peak hours, there is a service frequency of 10 to 30 minutes between Nové Sady and other districts of Olomouc. Located near Velkomoravská Street, one of the traffic arteries passing
through Olomouc, the district is easily accessible by car. The heavy car and bus traffic results in frequent congestion and causes a deterioration of the air quality, not only in this area but also
across the entire City of Olomouc. Therefore, the project foresees a major extension of the tram network by building a new line between the city centre and the area of Nové Sady, one of Olomouc’s
largest urban districts.
Goals
The goal of the project is to enhance the public transport infrastructure of Olomouc and to improve the living conditions and the air quality of the city.
