Context
A recent analysis carried out shows that the Polish NGO sector counts about 73’000 entities of different legal forms (mainly associations and foundations) and plays a
very important role in the public life and in fostering social and economic development. Despite this fact, it can be observed that the sector, as well as the Polish society in general, are touched
by a democratic deficit and civic apathy problems. A study made by an umbrella organisation of the NGOs in Poland confirmed this concern. The NGOs lose their members, and the interest in supporting
civil activities decreases among Polish citizens. This situation has an impact on the increase of economic and social disparities in Poland.
The first calls of this program in 2011 showed an overwhelming interest on the side of the NGOs and resulted in a high number of interesting proposals of good quality. This encouraging response initiated a second phase. Goals
The Block Grant will allow to enhance civic participation in Poland, strenthening this way the civil society in Poland as an important participant in improving the social
and economic cohesion of the country.
