Renewable Energy Systems for the Malopolskie Region
The project aims to reduce emissions by introducing renewable energy sources in the communes of Niepołomice, Wieliczka, Skawina and Kłaj in Southern Poland. The four communes foresee to install geothermal heat pumps, photovoltaic systems and solar collector installations on public buildings, like schools, health care facilities and student residences, as well as to equip private households located in the area of Natura 2000 sites with solar panels providing energy for heating and hot water. Environment and Infrastructure
Basic Infrastructure: Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Target Group
The direct beneficiaries are public institutions and private beneficiaries carefully selected to participate in this project. They will not only benefit from reduced
emissions and better air quality, but also from a higher disposable income as less conventional fuel needs to be purchased. Indirect beneficiaries are the approximately 60'000 inhabitants of the four
municipalities due to reduced emissions and better air quality.
Context
The project's overall objective is to improve air quality in the project region which is to a large extent a vulnerable and therefore protected nature area. This will be
achieved by reducing emissions from domestic and public hot water systems as well as by using solar power for electricity and geothermal heat pumps for heat generation. It contributes to the
implementation of the Polish government's energy policy (particularly with regard to increasing the share of renewable energy in the national energy balance and reducing emissions).
Goals
The goal of the project is to improve health and living conditions for the whole population in the covered region and to improve environmental conditions, particularly
with regard to air quality, in the covered region.
