Scholarship Fund for disadvantaged and marginalised youth

The Scholarship Fund enables disadvantaged and marginalized children to obtain a good formal education. For this purpose, the Fund finances, e.g., projects that help the children in learning and in homework, that motivate them to study further, or that offer them leisure time opportunities (such as sport, culture).

Theme/Focus Area
Human and Social Development
Research and Development
Target Group
NGOs (foundations, associations), public, educational and social institutions as implementing organisations; disadvantaged and marginalised children as final beneficiaries.
Context
Assistance for the education and development of marginalised and disadvantaged youth is available in Hungary, albeit, mostly for secondary and higher education programmes. The Scholarship Fund will focus on the biggest concern, i.e., that is to keep these youth at primary school and assist them to get into secondary education and not to drop out of the system.
Goals
The Scholarship Fund enables disadvantaged and marginalized children to obtain a good formal education. For this purpose, grants are given to foundations, associations or public institutions which financially support students in their starting of secondary-level education, respectively in their remaining enrolled.
Activities
The Scholarship Fund disburses the grants of CHF 50’000 to CHF 150’000 through one, if necessary two, open calls. The implementing organisations support with individually conceived projects 50 to 150 children, e.g., to help them in learning and in homework, to motivate them to study further, and to offer them leisure time opportunities (sport, culture).
Results

The expected results are:

  • Established and implemented effective Scholarship Fund management system (including open call, information activities, transparent selection of submitted projects, trainings and consultations);
  • Successfully implemented 6 – 18 projects for the financing of, e.g., living expenses, different kinds of tuition, training or exam fees, study material, performing arts, musical instruments or sport equipment to the benefit of at least 1’000 disadvantaged and marginalised children.
