Target Group
Border guards corps at the border check point in Terespol
Context
The eastern border is for Poland the most important borderline to be secured. An increased epidemiological threat coming from migrants crossing the eastern border has been monitored and can impact on EU security as well. The sole epidemiological facility today is located close to Warsaw, far from the eastern borderline. The migrants have to travel there with their means. This can take two days and, in case the person is affected by transmissible diseases (i.e tuberculosis, etc.), can constitute a big potential threat for the public health.
Goals

The project aim at strengthening the capacity of the border guards in Terespol to ensure the EU border protection. Migrants will benefit from:

  • Complete medical check
  • Psychological support
  • Vaccinations
  • Medical advisory services

Thank to this support to new coming migrants, the epidemiological risk will be consistently mitigated

Activities

The Office of Foreigners will be responsible to execute the project in close collaboration with the Central Clinical Hospital and the Border Guards.

  • A tender for a general contractor according to the Polish legislation shall be organised
  • The Office for Foreigners will appoint a supervisor specifically for the project in order to keep on track the planning and the construction works.
Results

The expected result of the project by December 2013 are:

  • Medical Check Centre built (gross cubature 2’891 m3, building area: 767 m2)
  • Medical Check Centre equipped (server room, radiological lab and dark room equipment, laboratory tables, doctor's desks, mobile treatment tables, germicidal lamps, disinfection mats, generic medical material).
