Energy Efficiency and Emission Reduction in the Parseta River Basin

This project is situated in in the region of the Parseta River Basin in north-western Poland. The basin is particularly precious for its unique flora and fauna, protected by a series of nature conservation sites along the river. This project aims at increasing energy efficiency and reducing emissions of greenhouse gases in the region.

Thema / Schwerpunktbereich
Umwelt und Infrastruktur
Basisinfrastruktur: Energieeffizienz und erneuerbare Energien
Zielgruppe
The direct beneficiaries are the municipalities owning the public buildings respectively the heating network to be upgraded in the course of this project. They will particularly benefit from reduced energy costs due to more efficient heating systems and networks.
Indirect beneficiaries are the users of the public buildings, i.e. people who live, stay, work, learn, are medically treated or who recover there, etc.
Kontext
The project's overall objective is to improve energy efficiency and to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. This will be achieved by introducing renewable energy sources and by modernizing the heating sources and networks in a total of 62 public buildings located in as many as 24 towns and villages. It contributes to the implementation of the Polish government's energy policy (particularly with regard to increasing the share of renewable energy in the national energy balance and reducing emissions).
Ziele
The goal of the project is to improve health and living conditions for the whole population in the covered region and to improve environmental conditions, particularly with regard to air quality, in the covered region.
Aktivitäten
  • Purchase and installation of complete solar systems for domestic hot water production on 35 public buildings with constant hot water demand, including public schools, kindergarten facilities, sports facilities, a swimming pool and several social centers.
  • Replacement and upgrading of old high emission coal boilers in three buildings owned by public healthcare institutions and in 10 public schools.
  • Upgrading and expansion of heat distribution networks in three municipal heating networks.
  • Purchase and installation of eight wind micro-turbine systems to serve as back up for the heat pumps forming a part of the central heating system.
Ergebnisse
  • Increased share of renewable energy from solar collectors
  • Increased share of renewable energy from wind
  • Reduction of conventional fuels
  • Energy savings of more than 10’000 MWh per year in participating public buildings
  • Substantial reduction of CO (-44%), CO2 (-40%), SO2 (-46%), NOx (-34%) and dust emissions(-48%) from participating buildings
