Revitalising the “dead zone”: An Educational Centre and Home for Cooperation
Thanks to this project, Switzerland is making its contribution to easing the strained relations between the Greek and Turkish communities in Cyprus. Support is being provided to a center for encounter and culture in Nicosia, located in the buffer zone between the Greek-Cypriot and Turk-Cypriot quarters of the city. This encounter center is being inaugurated at a time when a rapprochement between the two communities can be discerned. Thema / Schwerpunktbereich

Cypriots of both
sides of the division, local and international NGOs
Kontext
The project is based on the conviction that the two main obstacles confronting civil society are: i) the lack of infrastructure for intercommunity activities, and ii) inadequate skills for
identifying and mobilising support within legal procedures. The aim of the project is to transform the image of segregation of the “dead zone” into a symbol of cooperation.
